Hope begins with a meal.
When you provide a meal to someone who is hungry, you open the door for them to access critical resources and take the first step towards desperately needed hope and healing.
Right now, people in our community are facing hunger unlike any other time in recent memory.
The stories are heartbreaking. Men and women show up at our doors after unexpected life circumstances cause them to lose everything. Desperate parents call us in tears as they face the impossible choice between paying their bills or feeding their families. Kids show up at school with nothing in their lunchbox and try to hide their embarrassment when their stomach grumbles.
When you’re trapped in survival mode every day, you can’t focus on the future. It’s impossible to think beyond the desperate reality of today. That’s certainly how Mike felt when he found himself homeless on the streets of Edmonton, ready to take his own life.
“I had no job, no home, no belongings. I didn’t know where I was going to go or what I was going to do.”

At Hope Mission, our doors are always open to those in need.
For adults who are struggling with homelessness or addiction, receiving a meal is the first step to finding housing, accessing physical and mental healthcare, choosing recovery, and believing that there is a better future ahead. For a hungry child or a struggling family, a meal opens the door to summer camps, school lunches, food hampers, and other critical resources.
Our community is built around the table – and it’s all possible because of you.
Last year, compassionate people like you helped serve over
meals to hungry men, women, and children across the province.
“A meal can lead to something incredible. That’s where it started for me. One meal in the hall led me to coming to the program, getting in touch with God, and finding a purpose for my life. You can’t put a price tag on that.”
We can’t do this work without you.
For Mike — and thousands of others like him — hope truly begins with a meal. That first meal in our dining hall was the turning point for Mike. Since that day, his life has taken a remarkable turn for the better. He’s been sober for over a year, found strength and support in a church community, and witnessed healing and reconciliation within his family.
Your support makes stories like Mike’s possible. Every meal you help provide opens doors to community and critical resources, offering a path to a brighter future. You can make a difference today. Your generosity will transform lives, one meal at a time.
