Make a difference in someone’s life through volunteering.

Join us in bringing hope and support to those in need by sharing your time and talents.

Hope Mission relies on volunteers to provide help, support, and compassionate care to people in need all across the province.

Serving your community is a great way to make a deep impact on your community and change lives – even your own.

"It always makes me feel good to help others. It's a ripple effect which helps the whole community."

The first step is to fill out the online volunteer application. If you have a specific way you’d like to help that isn’t listed on the form, please connect with the volunteer department in your city to discuss your idea further!

What is the minimum age to volunteer?

Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 are eligible to volunteer as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Volunteers that wish to serve directly with children or in our emergency shelters must be at least 18 years old.

What is the required commitment?

Most shifts are between 3 – 4 hours. Volunteers that serve meals, help in the emergency shelters, or sort donations do not need to commit to a regular schedule. Once volunteers are approved for those areas, they have access to an online schedule that will allow them to see open shifts and book themselves accordingly. Certain volunteering positions will require a regular commitment.

Can I drop in to volunteer?

We do not allow drop in volunteers to ensure that everyone is provided orientation information and our schedule is balanced. Please fill out an online application form if you are interested in volunteering or accompanying a current volunteer.

Can I volunteer for the holidays?

Holiday volunteering shifts are opened three months in advance. These tend to book up extremely quickly, so be sure to apply early!

Do I need a criminal record check?

Many volunteer opportunities do not require a criminal record check. However, criminal record checks with vulnerable sector and interviews are required for volunteers who want to serve on the Rescue Van or at the youth centres (which will also require a Child Welfare Check).

Do you take volunteers who need to complete community service?

Yes, based on availability. Please fill out an application form and indicate the number of hours you need to complete. The volunteer administrator will contact you to confirm if you have been approved.

What is the maximum group size?

This varies based on the opportunity and location. Please reach out to your city’s volunteer administrator to learn more about opportunities in your area. For youth groups, we require one adult for every 3 – 4 youth.

Is there a cost if our group wants to serve a meal?

There is no financial obligation to our volunteers. If you would like to contribute to the cost of the meal financially, that would be fantastic! However, it is not a requirement.

Do you accept practicums or placements?

At this time, we are not accepting practicums or placements. Feel free to reach out if you need any additional information.
