Hope began with a meal.

Learn more about our story and the transformative work that happens every day at Hope Mission.

In 1929, Hope Mission was founded by Rev. Harold and Hillie Edwardson as a soup kitchen in Edmonton.

They had identified a deep need in the community as people struggled with unemployment and homelessness at the onset of the Great Depression and began serving meals to hundreds of people.

Today, thanks to a compassionate network of supporters, Hope Mission has grown. As a non-profit Christian social care agency, we now provide desperately needed help and support to men, women, children, and youth all across Alberta.

Emergency care is provided to people who are experiencing homelessness through meals, shelter, and outreach. Stabilization services are also available to help connect people to critical resources like housing, healthcare, and cultural supports.

We operate faith-based recovery programs that help men and women who are trapped in addiction and longing for a brighter future.

Finally, Hope Mission is deeply invested in the children and youth in our community and provides prevention services to kids and families who are struggling, including meals, community dinners, after school programs, school lunches, and summer camp.

For just $2.70, you can provide a meal for a hurting and hungry neighbour.

For many, a simple meal can be the beginning of a journey towards healing, hope, and transformation.
