OPEN A DOOR TO HOPE
A New Shelter by Next Winter
THE VISION
A city where each of our vulnerable neighbours has a warm, safe place to go.
THE NEED
Our shelters ran out of space this winter.
This past winter, the need pushed us to the brink. Every bed was full. Every mat on the floor was taken. We came dangerously close to turning people away in the cold. If the number of people needing shelter rises even slightly next winter, there will be no space left, and our vulnerable neighbours in crisis will be forced to sleep outside in the deadly cold.
The time to act is now in order to save lives next winter.
THE PLAN
Renovate a Hope Mission support facility into a life-saving shelter called Carepoint South.
Through renovating one of our existing support facilities, we plan to build on the success of CarePoint Wellness Centre in Edmonton’s West End – our proven “spoke and hub” model to decentralize spaces outside of downtown.
We are planning a $3.5-million dollar renovation before winter to meet this critical, life-saving need.
This will give our vulnerable neighbours the support they need to stabilize and begin rebuilding their lives, without adding social disorder in the neighbourhood.

Susane’s Story
Susanne had nowhere to go. She struggled with her mobility, and was stuck at a bus shelter in the bitter cold, hurting, hungry, and alone. One of the Rescue Vans picked her up and brought her to Hope Mission.
Susanne was still visibly shivering when she said:
“I had started to lose hope that anyone would find me. Thank you for bringing me in from the cold.”
There are thousands of people like Susanne coming to our doors in need of the same compassion, and we want to make sure there is room for each one when they are in need of help.
