When Hope Mission is mentioned, the first thing people think about is that we help the homeless population in our city. This is definitely true, however there is so much more that we offer as well! We also provide support and programs for many children across the province of Alberta.

We have programs for children and youth in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, and Wetaskiwin. We also have two summer camps – one located near Edmonton and the other near Calgary. We call these programs our preventative programs. They are set in place to help kids have a safe and fun place to go where they are loved by caring adults.

I recently took some time to think of the adults who have been a part of my life when I was growing up and how each one of them has helped shape me into the person that I am today. I have been very fortunate to have these people who have been a very positive example to me. There are some of those adults who have told me profound truths that have helped me through some tough times in my life. And I am grateful for each of them!

Our preventative programs at Hope Mission are designed to provide more positive role models in kids’ lives. There can never be enough positive role models in someone’s life as each adult can teach a kid something new!

It’s not only Hope Mission that has programs and positive adult role models for kids in our city. There is an abundance of organizations that can be involved in one child’s life. We all work together to help guide children to make positive choices and to become successful in life.

There is a saying that states, “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

As adults, we have a job to be examples of positivity to the children around us – to help them know that they are loved and worthy. We, at Hope Mission, make it our goal to help children gain confidence in themselves and to develop a healthy self-esteem so that they are empowered to make a difference in our world!

Take some time to talk to your children about the different adults in their lives that make them feel loved and worthy.

Take some time to also think about different children in your life, as an adult, that you can focus on to be a positive role model to and what that looks like.

It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. Let us be that village that raise children up to be successful and loving individuals!
