Hope Mission Summer Camp is a life-changing experience. It’s a place where deep relationships are formed. Kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity to go to summer camp find mentors, friends, and cheerleaders who care about them.
Through the excitement of an outdoor activity, quiet moments in reflection, or talking to someone who wants to listen – kids learn of a God who loves them, and in whom they can put their trust.
For kids who come to camp for the first time, it can be a daunting new experience, and yet, through counsellors who take the time to listen and get to know campers and their stories, hope begins to arise.
A boy named Tim came to Hope Mission Summer Camp for the first time this year. For the past few years, he’d been moving between different homes and different places. When he first arrived at camp, counsellors could tell he didn’t want to be there. He wouldn’t join in with other campers and the activities.
All he wanted to do was put his headphones in and be alone.
A counsellor made a special effort to talk with Tim and get to know him. Over the week at camp, Tim saw he was loved through the actions and words of counsellors.
He heard he was loved through the songs and stories during Bible studies and chapel.
Tim felt comfortable and secure. He realized he wasn’t alone.
By the end of the week, Tim was singing songs of hope and joy. He was encouraging other campers and left camp with a smile on his face.
Tim left camp with hope.
